W.Va. man flown to hospital after crash



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man was flown to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center Tuesday after the 1986 Ford Thunderbird he was driving struck a large tree off Hampshire Grade Road near the Back Creek Valley community of Shanghai, W.Va., police said.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Department deputy T.D. Heckman identified the driver as Jeffrey R. Ramey, 45, of Falling Waters, W.Va. Ramey's medical condition was not immediately known.

Heckman said no vehicle registration information was in the vehicle when he arrived at the accident scene, which was off the left side of Hampshire Grade Road about one-tenth of mile from Parsons Road.

The accident was reported just before 5 p.m., Heckman said. Back Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the accident and assisted with traffic control after one lane of Hampshire Grade Road was shut down, officials said.

Martinsburg man faces drug charges



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 39-year-old Martinsburg, W.Va. man was arraigned Tuesday on a felony count of delivery of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) after allegedly selling the drug earlier this month to a police informant, Berkeley County Magistrate Court records show.

George Louis Fowler Jr., of 924 S. Raleigh St., was charged by Martinsburg Police Department Detective S.F. Doyle based on a drug deal made in alleyway near Fowler's home on Nov. 9, records show.

The amount of crack cocaine or money exchanged was not specified in Doyle's complaint. Doyle was assisted in the operation by Detective Sgt. G.B. Swartwood.

Magistrate Joan V. Bragg set a $25,000 bond for the case, records show.

· 4:30 p.m. - Damage to motor vehicle tire, 400 block of Rhode Island Avenue.

· 9:01 p.m. - Peeping Tom, Manor Drive.

· 9:25 p.m. - Burglary involving video-game system, 200 block of Buena Vista.

· 10:39 p.m. - Scratches to motor vehicle and damage to window, 100 block of Locust Street.
