Sixteen applicants seek Aleshire's city council seat

The applicants for the Hagerstown City Council seat being vacated by Kristen B. Aleshire are:

· Harry L. Brubaker III of 63 West Side Ave., a contract specialist for the Food and Drug Administration. He is a graduate of Murray State University in Murray, Ky., with a degree in broadcast journalism.

· Martin E. Brubaker of 1016 Lindsay Lane, a retired public administrator. He is a member of the Hagerstown Planning Commission and has served on a number of other boards and commissions. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College with a degree in history and political science, and has pursued graduate studies in planning and public administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

· Walter E. "Nick" Carter of 1009 Salem Ave., a retiree from the Hagerstown Police Department. A graduate of South Hagerstown High School, he studied criminal justice and law enforcement at Hagerstown Community College and the University of Maryland. He served on the city's planning commission and parks board as well as a number of civic organizations.


· Steven R. Cromer of 448 Summit Ave., a background investigator and retired Hagerstown police officer. He is a graduate of Hagerstown Community College.

· Christina A. Davis of 815 The Terrace, publishing director for the American Occupational Therapists Association. She attended the University of Maryland at College Park and served as a council member and vice mayor of Riverdale, Md.

· David Scott Gysberts of 795 Hamilton Blvd., a school counselor in Gaithersburg, Md. A sociology/education graduate of Salisbury University with a graduate degree in counseling from West Virginia University, he served as chief election judge for Precinct 25-4 in this year's election.

· Henrietta JoAnna Hoffman of 154 Pangborn Blvd., an assessment operation specialist at Springfield Middle School in Williamsport. She attended Hagerstown Community College.

· Jerry Lee Hose Sr. of 26 S. Locust St., a former city employee also formerly employed by Garden State Tanning in Williamsport. He attended South Hagerstown High School.

· Joseph E. Longnecker of 7 E. Washington St., a graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He listed no occupation in his application.

· Ivory Clinton Mann Jr. of 10840 Downsville Pike, a financial analyst. Mann holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and a graduate degree in finance.

· Ralph Mauriello of 753 Spruce St., a business sales consultant for First Data. He is a graduate of Pace University with a degree in business administration.

· Henry R. Renner Jr. of 226 Bryan Place, a construction inspector for Washington County. He is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School and is a retired city employee.

· Joseph P. Sacchet of 1255 Lindsay Lane, site security manager for Citicorp and retired prison warden. He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore with a degree in criminal justice and pursued graduate studies at Shippensburg University.

· Barbara J. Spielman of 37 Mealey Parkway, a housing adviser for Hagerstown Home Store. A graduate of Shepherd University with a degree in business administration, she is chairman of the city's redevelopment authority.

· Gary E. Swartz of 441 Indiana Ave., is retired from Pangborn Corp. He served as president of UAW Local 842 and recording secretary for UAW State of Maryland CAP.

· Russell F. Williams of 450 Guilford Ave., a retired educator. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester with a degree in anthropology and holds a graduate degree in education from Catholic University.
