Hunting facts

· Firearms season for deer started Saturday, and runs through Dec. 9, and will be held again Jan. 5 and 6.

· Today is the only Sunday during the season on which hunting is permitted, and it's allowed only on private land.

· Hunters are limited to two antlered deer and 10 antlerless deer.

· Last year, Washington County led the state in the number of deer killed during firearms season, with 5,440 deer taken. Frederick County ranked No. 2, with 4,022 deer killed.

· After a deer is killed, the hunter must check the kill by calling 1-888-800-0121 or going to www.gamecheck.dnr.state.md.us.
