Washington County's jobless rate stood at 4 percent in October, a drop from 4.3 percent in September.

The statewide rate of 4 percent did not change.

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, which monitors unemployment rates, said in a press release that the number of workers in the state was a little more than 2.9 million in October, a record.

In the past year, the number of Maryland workers went up 2.6 percent, compared to 1.9 percent nationally, according to the release.

Eight of the state's 24 jurisdictions had unemployment rates of less than 3 percent in October. The lowest was 2.6 percent in Howard County.
