High school bands in county compete in Tournament of Bands

Three Washington County high school bands - Boonsboro, North Hagerstown and Williamsport - earned competitive spots on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships in Scranton, Pa.

Bands compete in the fall at local and regional competitions, based on band size. Group 1 bands are the smallest; Group 4 bands are the largest.

The top 25 bands on the Atlantic Coast, which includes Delaware, Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, were invited to compete at the championships. The North High band competed as a Group 3 band, while Boonsboro and Williamsport bands competed in Group 4.

North High finished in 24th place in Group 3 with a score of 84.6 (out of 100). Boonsboro tied for 15th place in Group 4 with a score of 83.35, and Williamsport's score of 80.5 earned them an 18th-place finish in Group 4. Tyler Detrich, Boonsboro's drum major, received the second highest score of 18 drum majors in the Group 4 drum major category.
