Golf fee changes considered

November 22, 2006|by JENNIFER FITCH

Golf cart rental prices and policies would change at the city-owned golf course in 2007 if the Hagerstown City Council approves a recommendation it favored Tuesday.

The regular greens fees at Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run would not change next year.

Cart rentals would be $10 for nine holes and $16 for 18 holes, translating into an increase of $1 and $2 respectively. Seniors wanting carts would be charged $9.50 for nine holes and $15 for 18 holes.

The city also is considering eliminating the family rate; instead, the individual rate would be assessed plus $150 for a spouse or each dependent.

The prices of season passes would increase over three years, bringing them to $370 for individuals and $260 for seniors by 2009. Currently, an individual season pass costs $250 and senior season passes cost $200.

"Even after three years, our senior rates will be lower than other courses around," Parks Superintendent Junior Mason said.

Recommendations by city staff and the Board of Parks & Recreation also include establishing a coupon book for nine holes and freezing the season-pass rate for people at least 75 years old. Those seniors must have remained a season pass holder for five consecutive years.
