No decision on Mercer street

November 21, 2006|by TRISH RUDDER

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Making part of Mercer Street a one-way street was not decided at the Bath Town Council meeting Monday night.

The three-block area of Mercer Street from the intersection at Fairfax Street to the intersection at Martinsburg Road (W.Va. 9) is to become one-way going south.

Mayor Susan Webster said the town council had not determined the penalties for violating the one-way restriction, so the ordinance was tabled until the next council meeting Dec. 4.

Council member Garnet Marsh said once the ordinance is passed, Mercer Street will become a safer street.

"This needs to happen for safety issues. We need everything in line to enforce the law," Marsh said.

Webster said making Mercer Street one-way will enable one-way parking on both sides of the street.
