Signore tops in 4-H in Franklin

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County 4-H Annual Recognition Banquet, sponsored by the 4-H Development Committee, was held here recently.

Jaclyn Upperman, 4-H County Council president, was the Mistress of Ceremonies. In all, 60 4-H members were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the past year. And, certificates of appreciation were given to more than 115 volunteers for their dedication to the 4-H program.

Special awards included:

· Alumni Awards to Jeffrey Bryson and Amanda Timmons;

· "I Dare You" Leadership Awards to Lindsay Upperman and Jesse Kline;

· Junior Achievement Award to Taryn Owens; and Keystone Award to Jesse Kline and Trisha Davis. They will represent Pennsylvania at the 4-H National Congress.

This year's Outstanding 4-H'er is Sarah Signore.

The daughter of Dan and Darlene Signore, of Waynesboro, Pa., Sarah is a member of the Greencastle Antrim 4-H Dairy Club.


The "Best Friend" Award, which is sponsored by Seeing Eye Inc., was presented to Brendan Roberts for his dedication to raising three "seeing eye" puppies.

The Eastern Dairy 4-H Club won first place in the club scrapbook competition.

"This year, we also recognized teen leaders who helped at two or more county or regional events," said Karen Hack, Extension educator for 4-H and youth.

This year's honorees are John Baker, Angel Beaver, Dale Beaver, Kenny Beaver, Michael Bryson, Teresa Bryson, Logan Carey, Trisha Davis, Kristina Dice, Jesse Kline, Matthew Timmons, Jaclyn Upperman, Lindsay Upperman, Ethan Walker, Loren Wenger, Madison Wenger and Nicholas Wingert.

Milestone anniversaries were also celebrated for volunteers who have helped inn 4-H. These are:

· 35 years - Roger Dice and Mark Gayman;

· 30 years - Esther Beaver;

· 25 years - Joan Brechbill;

· 20 years - Arlan Crider, Jesse Reichard, and Marcella Shreffler;

· 15 years - Laura Hess, Sharon Holoviak, Steve Holoviak, Kelly Smith, and Linda Wagner;

· 10 years - Clayton Moyer, Deb Stahl, and Kevin Stahl; and

· 5 years - John Baker, Kelly Baker, Jeff Bumbaugh, Sarah Donahoe, Hannah Landis, Tina Mentzer, Kim Miles, Abraham Pugh and Kim Wells.
