HCC student receives scholarship

Maryann K. Snyder of Hagerstown was one of 14 recipients of a $2,500 scholarship from the 2006 Maryland Hospital Association's Hospital Scholars awards, according to a hospital association press release.

Snyder is a student at Hagerstown Community College seeking an associate degree in nursing, according to the release. She is affiliated with Washington County Hospital.

BD Diagnostic System also participates in the scholarship program, which is designed to provide financial assistance to Maryland students preparing for professions in health care and life sciences, according to the release.

Students are required to be Maryland residents, enrolled in a Maryland school, and employed or volunteering at a Maryland hospital, according to the release.


Elementary schools featured in newsletter

Conococheague and Emma K. Doub elementary schools are featured in Type 2, the newsletter for the National Network of Partnership Schools, in an article about the success of family math nights at elementary schools, according to a Washington County Public Schools press release.

Conococheague's family math night taught parents and students math games that reinforced what students were learning in class, according to the release. Each family received a copy of a game to play at home.

Emma K. Doub's math game night featured math games donated by a local business, which teachers adapted to match skills taught in class, according to the release.
