Hunting facts

· Deer season is big business in West Virginia, generating an annual economic impact of $233 million, according to the state Division of Natural Resources. About 320,000 licensed hunters are expected to take to the woods this year.

· Last year during the state's two-week buck season, 56,901 animals were killed across West Virginia, and wildlife officials said this year's season also could produce high kills.

· Deer can be spotted in higher elevations like Hampshire County, or in lower areas in Berkeley and Jefferson counties. Sometimes referred to as "urban bucks," deer in Jefferson and Berkeley counties can grow large after feasting in farm fields.

· Sunday hunting is allowed in 14 counties, but on private land only. Jefferson County is one of those counties.
