You Said It

"Did anybody see 'Dancing with the Stars?' It almost reminded you of Bush and Gore running for president. They picked who they wanted to win. I don't think it went the right way. I know that's my opinion, but it's a lot of other people's opinion."

"Certain callers to this column have blamed Bush and Ehrlich for high gas prices. They don't understand that the world marketplace for oil determines the price of gas, not the president, and certainly not the governor of any state. Gas prices are currently in the $2.199 range, much lower than the cost of gas under Democrat President Jimmy Carter in 1980, when gas was equivalent to $2.94 per gallon in 2006 dollars."

A: As much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Q: How much is someone willing to pay?

A: Within the range of their income.

Q: When will the abundance of homes in Washington county start selling again?

A: When the prices come back to reality or the jobs start paying $90K a year.

I wonder which will happen first?"

"I'm walking in City Park, and I was wondering if you still have park guards in November. It's kind of scary walking through here alone, and just trying to find out if you have park guards. You should if you want to have the park remain open for another month or two."

"I want to comment about the impact fees and large fees for school construction. The homeowners in gated communities and senior citizens' communities have to pay them. This shouldn't be, because they will not be having any more children."

"I'd like to ask a question of the caller from St. James. Why is it so unbelievable that we could impeach President Bush for the lies that he has told this country, for getting us into a war that was done for oil and because of the attempt made against his father's life earlier? And why is it that it's all right to impeach President Clinton over a personal matter and not a political matter?"

"I think enough is enough. If these people want to live in our country and contribute to society, I think that's fine, but I just went to my bank today to withdraw some money from the ATM - a bank I have banked with for years. They have a brand-new ATM set up so that you can either speak English or get your instructions in Spanish. This thing has been completely reworked, and work like that is not cheap to come by. I just wonder how much that cost the bank customers."

"I just noticed they started decorating the downtown area. I just want to know why all our signs have switched to 'Happy Holidays' and 'Season's Greetings.' We are in the U.S. We were raised to believe in God. Christmas is Christmas, not Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings, to accommodate those who come over here and want to be like us. They have their religion; we have ours. I respect theirs - they should respect mine. It is Christmas, not Happy Holidays."

"I was reading in the Wednesday paper, the article on that Abramoff that tried to influence the senators and everything. I see that he got a jail term, but how about those he tried to influence or accepted money from him? What did they get?"

"To the parents of Northern Middle School students that pick their kids up after school: A red line indicates a no-parking zone. I think people need to be parking on the left side of the turnaround in front of the school, not both sides of the streets, therefore blocking everybody on the left side in and cannot get out until numerous people that are parked along the red line move their vehicles."

"I'm really thankful for the elections. We finally got people crying about something other than hunting."

"Those Democrats are gonna raise your taxes. Was Ehrlich a Republican? The gas in Maryland was higher than other states, MVA prices almost tripled, land tax is higher and let's not forget the flush tax. Now another Republican wants to slap us with a fire tax - but the Democrats will raise your taxes. When are we going to pay a user fee for underground streams?"

- Clear Spring

"I'm calling regarding van-accessible handicapped parking. Please, folks, if a parking place is specifically labeled for van-accessible handicapped parking, there is a reason. People who use a van most often have to have a ramp to get their wheelchair out. Ramps cannot be extended from the van in a regular handicapped parking spot, so therefore, if you're driving a car, please don't park in the van-accessible parking. Many times when we have to unload a van with a ramp, we may scratch your car. For that, I'm sorry, but if you park in the van-accessible parking, you're gonna get scratched. Be a little considerate. "

"Someone says, 'I don't remember anyone calling Lyndon B. Johnson a murderer, and the draft was hot and heavy in '66 and '67.' Apparently, they have forgotten the chant 'Hey, hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?'"
