Leighton is new pastor at Church of Holy Trinity

The Rev. Timothy J. Leighton has been pastor and teacher at Church of the Holy Trinity, United Church of Christ in Hagerstown, since mid-January.

Born in Westbrook, Maine, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and religion from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1987.

After graduation from college, Leighton joined the Peace Corps, serving in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, as a water and sanitation technician where he analyzed, developed and constructed clean drinking water systems in rural villages.

When he returned from Central Africa, Leighton enrolled in Andover Newton Theological School and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1993.

He served a church in Florida and later moved to New Hampshire, where he worked full time for six years as a benefits consultant for three AIDS service organizations.

Leighton also provided interim pastoral leadership for three different congregations, managed a group home for homeless young men and was active in the community and church groups.
