Arts council celebrates, hands out $20,000 in grants

Local arts representatives gathered Tuesday at the Arts Council's Gallery in Hagerstown to witness the awarding of more than $20,000 in grants from the Washington County Arts Council and to observe a brief celebration of the council's 39th year.

Formed in 1967, the council is celebrating 39 years of serving the community through nurturing the arts.

Grants were given to: the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet; the Appalachian Wind Quintet; Authentic Community Theatre; the Maryland Symphony Orchestra; the Hancock Arts Council; Hagers-town Choral Arts; the 12th annual Western Maryland Blues Fest; Augustoberfest; The Maryland Theatre; and more.
