Shepherd 98, Columbia Union 78

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Barry Cornish had 28 points and 23 rebounds as Shepherd University topped Columbia Union in the Clarion Hotel Tip-off Tournament.

Yves Moliva scored 24 points for the Rams (1-0). Danley Shank had 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals, and Fred Lymas added six points, five assists and three steals.

Indiana (Pa.) 81, Shepherd 77

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Tiffany Acker scored 18 points for Shepherd University in a loss to Indiana on the first day of the California University Holliday Inn Classic.

The Rams held a seven-point lead at halftime, but managed only 10 field goals in the second half, allowing Indiana to charge ahead.

Danielle Costelle added 13 points for the Rams (0-1), while Andrea Kauffman had 11 points and Laura Harkins had nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Young earns rookie award

Shippensburg University freshman Cindel Young, a Broadfording graduate, was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Rookie of the Year.

Young, who also was named to the All-PSAC East Second Team, led the Lady Raiders in hitting percentage (.301) and blocks per game (0.81), and was fourth in kills per game (2.34).
