Sheriff's deputies respond to calls



The Washington County Sheriff's Department handled the following calls Thursday and early today:

· At 5:42 this morning, a stolen vehicle was recovered on Greensburg Road. Taken from King's Crest Boulevard Tuesday, the vehicle was missing its tires and other items.

· Lumber valued at $1,500 was taken from the 14000 block of Seneca Ridge Road. The theft was reported Thursday at 8:16 a.m.

· The theft of a credit card from Wantz Distributors at 11743 Hopewell Road was reported Thursday at 8:32 a.m. The thieves reportedly had already rung up $3,000 in charges.

· A breaking and entering was reported Thursday at 11:53 a.m. at 11646 Green Spring Furnace Road. There was no further information on if anything was taken.

· Hubcaps valued at $200 were reported taken from a vehicle parked at 8858 Jordan Road on Thursday at midday.




One person dies in wreck



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - One person was killed and several people were injured Thursday night when two vehicles and a motorbike were involved in an accident on W.Va. 9 in Baker Heights, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department deputy.

Chief Deputy Kenneth Lemaster said he had no details about the person who died. He was not sure how many people were injured, but he did not believe their injuries were serious.

According to a Berkeley County Emergency Services dispatcher, the accident in the 1400 block of Charles Town Road was reported at 8:29 p.m. Rescue personnel left the scene about 11 p.m., the dispatcher said.

While emergency personnel were on the scene, W.Va. 9 was closed and motorists were rerouted to Grapevine Road, Lemaster said.




Man hurt in wreck on Interstate 70



McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - An Alexandria, Va., man was slightly injured early Wednesday when he lost control of his 2004 Ford van on Interstate 70 and flipped.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said Argueta A. Santos was traveling west near the Town Hill exit at 3:58 a.m. Wednesday when he drove off the road and flipped his vehicle into the middle lane.

Santos, 35, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Bedford Memorial by ambulance, police said.
