Humane Society gets OK to use park Jan. 1

November 15, 2006

WILLIAMSPORT - Williamsport Town Council voted Monday to allow a Humane Society of Washington County request with one stipulation.

The Humane Society requested permission to use the boat ramp and soccer field at River Bottom Park for the annual Polar Bear Plunge on New Year's Day 2007. The organization also asked for permission to use the soccer field for parking.

The Town Council voted unanimously to allow the request with the stipulation that parking for the event be regulated by volunteers.

Some councilmen said that last year's event was unsafe and could have been disastrous because of parking problems.
