Two killed in separate accidents

State police in Maryland and Pennsylvania were investigating two fatal vehicle accidents on Saturday.

A Hagerstown woman died Saturday morning following a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 near Hollow Road in Frederick County, according to a Maryland State Police press release.

Alison Costa, 23, was westbound on Interstate 70 just after midnight when the 2006 Toyota Solara she was driving left the road and struck an embankment, according to the release.

Police do not know what caused the vehicle to leave the road, although speed might have been a contributing factor, according to the release.

Costa, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, according to the release.

Pennsylvania State Police in Franklin County still were on the scene Saturday night of a single-vehicle accident on Duffield Road in Guilford Township, according to a state police communications officer..

Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner confirmed that one person was killed in the 8:03 p.m. crash about 1 1/2 miles east of Mont Alto Road. He said a pickup truck struck a guard rail and rolled over into a small stream.

The person killed was the lone occupant of the pickup truck, Conner said.

Conner said Saturday night his investigation was ongoing and he had no further information to release.
