Saints' Young finishes fourth

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - St. James' senior Dean Young finished fourth overall in the Small Schools division of the Maryland-D.C. Private Schools State Championship at Glenelg Country School on Saturday.

Young led the Saints to a fourth-place finish with his time of 18 minutes, 21 seconds. Freshman Sean Orlowski (19:49) finished 19th for St. James.

St. Andrews won the Small Schools team championship behind Joe Peterson, the overall winner in 17:39.


Hub City Volleyball tryouts

The Hub City Volleyball Club, a member of the Cheasepeake Region of USA Volleyball, will begin holding tryouts for its third season on Nov. 19 at Girls, Inc. in Hagerstown. There is a $20 tryout fee, which will be applied to the club fee for those selected as team members.


Tryouts for 15U and 16U will be held from 7-8 p.m. Tryouts for 14U and 18U will be from 8-9.

HCVC is also seeking coaches in hopes of expanding to other age groups. Coaches who are interested should contact HCVC at or by contacting Keith Nelson at 304-263-2537 or Wendi Smith at 301-432-6101.


Hole-in-one recorded

Vic Campbell posted a hole-in-one Friday at Beaver Creek Country Club. He used a 9-iron to ace the 8th hole from 140 yards. He was playing with Greg Trout and Rod Steiner.
