The Harbaughs

Cecil "Butch" and Nelda (Dellinger) Harbaugh were surprised with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration Dec. 15, 2005, at the home of Rose and Butch Shank, Mr. Harbaugh's sister and her husband. The event was also attended by Mr. Harbaugh's sisters and husband, Betty Hull, Dolores Hornbecker and Joan and Dick Kershner. The event occurred during the sisters' weekly gathering for lunch and cards.

The Harbaughs were also surprised at a party at the Improved Order of Red Men in Williamsport. The event was hosted by Mrs. Harbaugh's twin sister, Norma, and husband, Larry Lowman; her brothers, Lewis Dellinger and Don Dellinger, and their wives, Bertha and Pat. Nieces, nephews and friends attended the event.

The Harbaughs were married Dec. 16, 1955, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown by the late Rev. George S. Bowden.

They retired from federal service and now live in Austin, Texas.

The Herberts

John and Shirley Herbert of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at a surprise dinner at Stinger's Sports Pub & Grill north of Boonsboro. The event was hosted by two of their three children and spouses, Donna and Bruce Saunders and John and Debbie Herbert. Many friends and family members attended the celebration.


The Herberts were married Aug. 20, 1956, by the Rev. Petre in his parsonage.

Mrs. Herbert is employed with Berwick Offray in Hagerstown.

Mr. Herbert previously owned Hagerstown Construction Services Inc. He is now retired, but works part time managing the South End Shopping Center for Olbo Corp.

They have seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
