Playmakers kick off season with 'CInderella' musical

WILLIAMSPORT - The Potomac Playmakers theater troupe is preparing for its season debut, "Cinderella," at Williamsport High School, nearly two weeks after a fire damaged the community theater's home at the Women's Club in Hagerstown.

The show opens Friday, Nov. 10, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 18. The Potomac Playmakers' season continues through spring 2007 and will include "Run For Your Wife" in February, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in March, and "The Odd Couple" in May.

Ruth Ridenour, the show's director and president of the theater company, said it is uncertain where the next three shows will be held.

Faulty wiring caused the blaze at the Women's Club on Sunday, Oct. 22, according to Herald-Mail reports. It is uncertain when the theater company will be able to return to the Women's Club.

"This has been one of the most stressful weeks I have ever had before a show," Ridenour said. "We had to rebuild the entire set in a week, when we would have normally had three months to do it."

Ridenour, who teaches theater and chorus at Williamsport, said the Women's Club could accommodate an audience of 150, while Williamsport can hold 450. "Our (original) stage is one third the size of this one," Ridenour said.

The cast and crew seemed to be well-adjusted to the change in venue during a dress rehearsal days before the season opener. Christina "Tina" McAllister-Moore, a Williamsport graduate, has the lead role of Cinderella. Tod Williams will be her prince. Strong vocals will come from Cinnamon Rowland, a music teacher at Emma K. Doub who plays Cinderella's stepmother, and Terri Magers, who plays the godmother.
