Update - Cowles wins in 51st District

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Republican Daryl E. Cowles won the 51st District seat in the West Virginia House of Representatives, according to complete, but unofficial results from Tuesday's election.

Cowles received 2,388 votes to defeat Gary Lee Nelson, who received 1,619 votes.

The 51st District has 10 precincts in Morgan County and five precincts in Hampshire County.

In Morgan County, Cowles received 1,794 votes, while Nelson received 1,142.

Cowles, 36, is a small-business owner and lives at 2612 Martinsburg Road in Berkeley Springs.

Nelson, 63, lives at 4511 Pious Ridge Road in Berkeley Springs and is a retired ecologist.

Mountain Party candidate Robin Mills received 127 votes in Morgan County and 369 districtwide. He is from Rio, W.Va., in Hampshire County.

The two-year term has a yearly salary of $15,000. The position is held by Republican Charles S. Trump IV of Berkeley Springs, who did not seek re-election.
