Nigh criticizes Bruchey for letter to the editor

November 08, 2006|by CANDICE BOSELY

A letter to the editor written by Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II in support of a political candidate raised the ire of Councilwoman Penny Nigh, who discussed it during the City Council meeting Tuesday.

"That was one of the most hurtful letters," Nigh told the mayor during the meeting.

She said she felt it was inappropriate that Bruchey included with his signature his title of mayor, saying it made the entire Council look bad.

The letter ran in the Saturday, Nov. 4, edition of The Herald-Mail. In it Bruchey wrote in support of Paul Muldowney, who ran for the 2-C District of the House of Delegates.

Nigh said she has received phone calls from people about the letter.

Bruchey said that anyone who wants to talk to him about the letter should call him.

"Those were my feelings and my feelings only," he said. "I stand by what was written."
