CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Del. Bob Tabb, D-Jefferson was ahead of Republican challenger Earl Wilbourne early today in the race for the 56th House of Delegates seat and Del. Locke Wysong was enjoying a comfortable lead over Republican Bob Adams in the 58th House of Delegates seat, according to unofficial results.

Wysong had 2,855 votes compared to Adams' 1,827 votes, according to returns reported this morning.

The 56th House of Delegates district also extends into Berkeley County.

Early today, Tabb had 2,685 votes compared to Wilbourne's 1,817, according to returns.

Higher pay for public school teachers, relief from rising property taxes and increased funding for schools were among the issues being highlighted by Tabb and Wilbourne.

Tabb, 54, of 1885 Darke Lane, Kearneysville, W.Va., is the owner of a local nursery and Wilbourne, 52, of 4828 Summit Point Road, Charles Town, is a minister and small business owner.

Adams, 37, of 261 Falcon Ridge Drive, Charles Town, said he thought the state of public schools in the area was the defining issue in his race against Wysong.

Wysong, 33, of Charles Town, said his work on teacher salaries includes improvements in the step pay increase system. Lawmakers can now examine more comprehensive pay increases for teachers, Wysong said.
