Dancers named to company

November 08, 2006

The Board of Directors of the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company announces that dancers have been named for Company II for the 2006-07 season.

Company II members are Anne Beachley, Eileen Conway, Alexa Hofmann, Stephanie Milani and Katherine Miller. Emily Seiler was named an apprentice. This was the first audition experience of this type for many of the dancers.

Company II is PCYBC's training ground for dancers ages 12 to 18 who either were not old enough or needed additional training before joining the full company.

Selected through a process of open auditions, dancers participated in a 1 1/2-hour class and were rated by four judges on seven criteria, including technical skills at the barre, allegro, adagio, body alignment, presentation, musicality, and for the ladies, pointe work.

The judges rated each dancer with a score of one to five on each of the seven criteria.

Those with the highest scores were named as members to Company II. This is in keeping with procedures used in most ballet companies.

In addition to their regular dance classes, which might number two to six during the week, Company II has class every Saturday morning, followed by rehearsals.

All Company II members will participate in PCYBC's upcoming production of "The Nutcracker," which will be presented at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagers-town on Saturday, Dec. 9, and Sunday, Dec. 10. Tickets are available at the theater box office.

Lauran Clowser is founder and artistic director, Jennifer Green-Flint is ballet mistress and Danielle Horochowski is assistant ballet mistress.
