You Said It

November 06, 2006

"You know, it's funny how the media is dominated by this remark by Kerry. It was a comment that was taken totally out of context, and the Republicans are so desperate they are making it an issue. If this is all the conservatives have to talk about with a few days left, it shows how desperate they are for anything to divert from Bush's failed war and policies. All the Repubs are doing is playing the 'divert' card. Divert, divert, divert."

- Hagerstown

"I keep seeing letters to the editor and also comments in (You Said It) and Mail Call about voting 'no' on charter home rule. People that want to vote 'no' on it are somewhat out of touch - maybe not only on the issue, but my understanding is that we're not gonna vote on charter home rule for at least two more years. The charter hasn't been written yet. A board has just been appointed to do that, and that choice of people on that board called the referendum."

"Newspaper, why are you discontinuing The Daily Mail? I know maybe we only need one paper, but The Daily Mail, I don't know ... they'd better think about doing that, and they'd better deliver it in the afternoon. People look forward to that. Good job, (You Said It). You do a wonderful job."

"The school board elections are a week off. Has anyone asked the folks running about when they're going to start refurbishing the old schools? Boonsboro Middle School and Boonsboro High School were build back in the '70s perhaps, as open schools. They have no walls between the classrooms. What a design failure. The walls are only 4 feet high. Some of the teachers put shower curtains up, but you can't hear."

- Boonsboro

"Once again, John Kerry is reliving his youth with his despicable comments about our American servicemen and women."

- Hagerstown

"I have a child who attends Williamsport High School and has to serve in detention - but detention is not the problem. My child was only tardy, and is not being given a hot lunch. I'm still paying for a hot lunch but getting a cold sandwich in a bag. I think this is wrong. I think the school board should address it."

- Williamsport

"The statement Kerry made about you don't have an education, you end up in Iraq - most of our boys that's in the service, a lot of them don't have an education. It took the military in order to get it. In a way, though, Kerry shouldn't talk about our troops, but I think he's right in a way. Some of the jobs in the U.S., the only thing that we got going now for us is most of the warehouse jobs or fast-food service jobs."

- Washington County

"I would like to congratulate the Smithsburg Patriots A Team for their perfect record, 10 and 0, and being the county champions, and also the Patriots B Team for second place. These kids and kids from all teams work hard and should be recognized for it. Also, thank you to the coaches and parents. Go, Patriots, and good luck on Sunday's game."

- Martinsburg, W.Va.

"I would just like to thank all of the nice people who gave out trick-or-treat candy. Also, why would you go to all the expense and trouble to decorate for Halloween if you don't even give out treats?"

- Hagerstown

"Discovery Station is asking for money, and I say whatever you commissioners or even the council do, no, no, no, do not give them any more money. This thing is supposed to rise and fall on its own; it hasn't. They've even brought volunteers in to work and still haven't made money. So whatever you do, no more money to Discovery Station. Follow John Munson's line and say 'no.'"

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling about the lack of traffic law enforcement in the City of Hagerstown. Where I live, people constantly run the red lights, speed through here, pass on the right. The City might as well suspend all traffic rules, regulations, laws, because they're not being enforced. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that sees this, and it's on a daily basis."

- Hagerstown

"The Salvation Army had a Hallelujah carnival on their playground, Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. There was music, food and games, and it was free to everyone. It was really nice."

- Hagerstown

"John Kerry's remarks proved one thing: The American soldier has always been more worthy than the politicians."

- Greencastle, Pa.
