Veterans Day events planned in area

WILLIAMSPORT - The annual Veterans Day service sponsored by Williamsport American Legion Post 202 will be Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at 400 S. Conococheague St.

The ceremony will include a performance by the Springfield Middle School Band and a memorial wreath-laying.

Several officials of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion will speak.

Local veterans, their families and friends are invited to the food court at Valley Mall Nov. 11 from 1:15 to 4 p.m. for a special event honoring veterans from the area.

Sponsored by Valley Mall and The Herald-Mail Co., the event will feature music, entertainment, refreshments, a tribute wall, speakers and a World War II panel discussion.

There also will be a video salute to veterans.

Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and the post's auxiliary will sponsor the annual Veterans Day ceremony honoring all veterans Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse.


This year, veterans of World War II will be specially honored. Speakers will be members of the post who served in the war.

A special musical tribute titled "Before You Go" will be presented.

Military, service and civic groups will lay wreaths during the ceremony.

SHARPSBURG - Antietam Unit 236 of the American Legion Auxiliary will host a wreath-laying ceremony honoring all veterans Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the town square.

The Speener M. Hose Veterans Dinner - a salute to all veterans - will be Dec. 8 at Elks Lodge 378 on Robinwood Drive.

U.S. Marine Corps retired Maj. Gen. Greg Corliss will be guest speaker for the event sponsored by the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County.

Pearl Harbor survivors will be specially honored on the 65th anniversary of the attack.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $20 per person and may be paid by check to Joint Veterans Council and sent to Harold H. King, 11839 Bradford Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - The 74th annual Brunswick Veterans Day parade will begin Sunday at 2 p.m., following a one-hour opening ceremony on East Potomac Street at Square Corner Park.

Roger Thomas, a Pearl Harbor survivor, will be parade marshal in honor of the 65th anniversary of the attack.

Brig. Gen. Randal Fullhart will be keynote speaker.

Military units, majorettes, high school bands, equestrians and cars from more than four states will participate in the parade.
