W.Va. man faces assault, theft charges

A Harpers Ferry, W.Va., man is charged with taking part in an assault in which another man claims he was injured with a cattle prod, according to Washington County District Court records.

Probable cause was found in a preliminary hearing for Thomas Lee Williams, 21, of 1328 Spruce St., who is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, theft of less than $500, robbery, armed robbery and reckless endangerment.

According to a charging document, Williams struck the victim and took money from his pants during an incident in a car on Aug. 12. near Benevola Bridge and Newcomer Road.

Inmate pleads guilty in assault at MCTC

A prison inmate accused of hitting another man with a lock tied to a string was sentenced Tuesday to serve more time behind bars, according to Washington County District Court records.


Vincent Darnell Barnes, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree assault on another inmate and was sentenced to serve two years in prison.

According to a charging document, Barnes struck another inmate in the head with the lock during a fight Jan. 25 at the Maryland Correctional Training Center.

The state's prison Web site showed Tuesday that Barnes was being held at the Roxbury Road facility.
