Donations grow for Nutcracker Gala and Benefit Auction

The donation list is rapidly growing for the items to be offered at Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company's second annual Nutcracker Gala and Benefit Auction.

The gala will be Sunday, Nov. 12, at Cortland Mansion in Hagerstown. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

The gala will benefit the ballet company, which is recognized as a nonprofit organization. It will enhance the performance and educational activities of this pre-professional company.

The evening will include an assortment of food, courtesy of Liz Hopkinson and Palate Pleasers, raffles, and both a silent auction and a live auction. A short performance by the ballet company will round out the event.

A partial list of prizes includes:

· Getaway package to the Carolina Winds Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

· Ski package from Ski Liberty

· Gift certificate from Bikle's Ski Shop

· A necklace from R. Bruce Carson Jewelers

· Tickets from the Maryland Symphony Orchestra


· Tickets to Phildanco performance in Feb. 2007, from The Maryland Theatre

· Tickets to the musical "Chicago" at the Hippodrome in Baltimore

· Memberships and services from local fitness clubs including Total Fitness Specialists and Golds Gym

· Gift certificates from a number of area restaurants including Garfields and Quiznos

· A variety of services, including baby-sitting, birthday party at 4-Star Athletic Club, interior room painting and income tax preparation

· Portrait sitting and portrait from Photography by Dale

· A guitar signed by Van Morrison

· A gift bag from Twigg's Cycles

· Autographed playbills and movie scripts from a number of movies, including "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Horrors," "Mean Girls," "Phantom of the Opera," "Stick It," "Gangs of New York," "The Benchwarmers," "Chicago" and "Just My Luck"

· A variety of sports memorabilia, including an autographed hockey puck from the Washington Capitals, autographed bat from Baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, and Philadelphia Soul Arena Football team and Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise

· A George Clooney Fan Basket

· Gift Certificate from Adventure Park USA

· Several handmade quilted wall hangings with themes from "The Nutcracker"

· Items from a number of downtown businesses, including Maggies Hang-Ups, Basketful of Gifts, Ben's Flowers, Hoffman Clothiers, Hagerstown Magazine, City of Hagerstown and Bogard's

Tickets cost $25 each or four can be bought for $75. They may be purchased by calling Youngblood Studios at 301-739-7250 or by contacting any member of the gala committee. Members include Angie Boyer, Lauran Clowser, Mike Heyser, Judi Hofmann, Karen Milani, Diana Rupp, Sally Miller, Julie Schimmel, Angie Sievers, Robin Thomas and Angie Youngblood.

The company will present its annual "Nutcracker" production at The Maryland Theatre on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. Special guests from the Joffrey Ballet will be a part of the production. Tickets are available at The Maryland Theatre box office.
