Voters Guide - About this guide

October 30, 2006

Editor's Note: The Herald-Mail has prepared the Washington County Voters Guide to help voters learn about the candidates running for national, state and local office.

The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

In Washington County, voters will select the five members of the Washington County Commissioners, three members of the Washington County Board of Education, the sheriff, the state's attorney and several state representatives, among other offices.

The Herald-Mail asked some of the local candidates to respond, in writing, to questions. The candidates were limited to 75-word responses per question. Answers of more than 75 words were edited to fit the word count restriction.

Washington County voters also will cast ballots for the state's governor and representatives to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, among other offices. Information about those candidates was provided by the League of Women Voters of Maryland. More information about the candidates is available on the League's Web site,

Voters also may learn more about the candidates by watching a rebroadcast of two candidates forums sponsored by The Herald-Mail, Hagerstown Community College, the League of Women Voters of Washington County and Antietam Cable Television.

The first two-hour forum featured candidates for Washington County Commissioners, sheriff and state's attorney. The second two-hour forum featured candidates for the Washington County Board of Education and state delegate subdistricts 1C and 2C.

Both forums will run back-to-back Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. on Antietam Cable channel 19.

Voting is a right, a privilege and a duty.

The Herald-Mail encourages all registered voters to vote on Nov. 7.
