Boy hurt after being struck by vehicle

October 29, 2006

A 6-year-old boy was injured Saturday afternoon when a motorist ran over his foot as he left Target on Cole Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Patrick Kemmerer issued a citation to Maria Allen, 22, of Vienna, Va., for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, contributing to an accident.

The boy was leaving the store with his mother and sister when Allen's vehicle ran over his right foot. She then stopped - still on his foot, but quickly moved her vehicle, Kemmerer said.

Kemmerer said the boy was aided at the scene by store personnel until ambulance personnel from the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway arrived shortly after the 3:15 p.m. incident.
