Sounds of days gone by

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - "Night and Day" musicians hope to bring Depression-era Broadway sounds to the Capitol Theatre on Saturday.

"Night and Day," starting at 8 p.m., will feature baritone Jonathan Retzlaff and pianist Enid Katahn, who will perform songs from '30s and '40s Broadway and cinema. Katahn said the two will perform songs by Scott Joplin (who predates the '30s and '40s theme), George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, "Fats" Waller and Hoagy Carmichael. Cole Porter's "Night and Day" also is on the set list.

Retzlaff is an associate professor of voice at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music. Katahn is a concert pianist and former faculty member at Vanderbilt University. More information is available at The Capitol Theatre's Web site, TheCapitolTheatre.org.
