Ballet selects dancers for coming season

October 25, 2006

The Board of Directors of the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company announces that dancers have been named for the 2006-07 season.

Named as full company members were Jennifer Bell, Courtney Boyer, Sonja Brigham, Alexis Cavey, Katie Colbert, Audreanna Colombo, Marie Furnia, Lauren Riviello, Kelsy Rupp, Isabella Schiro, Krystyna Thomas and Lacey Turner.

Selected through a process of open auditions, dancers participated in a two-hour class and were rated by four judges on seven criteria, including technical skills at the barre, allegro, adagio, body alignment, presentation, musicality and, for the ladies, pointe work.

The judges rated each dancer with a score between one and five on each of the seven criteria. Those with the highest scores were named full company members, while those also scoring well, but not quite as high as the full members were named apprentices.

In addition to their regular dance classes, the company has class every Saturday morning followed by rehearsals.

All company members will participate in the production of "The Nutcracker" on Dec. 9 and 10 at The Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown. Tickets are available at The Maryland Theatre box office.

A nonprofit organization, the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company is a preprofessional company dedicated to providing educational and performance opportunities to the area's most talented dancers ages 13 to 18. Lauran Clowser is founder and artistic director, Jennifer Green-Flint is ballet mistress and Danielle Horochowski is assistant ballet mistress. The City Ballet School serves as the resident home for the company.
