Waynesboro's Wetzel finishes sixth in Pa.

YORK, Pa. - Waynesboro senior Jake Wetzel shot a 3-over-par 74 to finish in a sixth-place tie in the PIAA State Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

Wetzel followed up his first-round 77 with a strong effort despite wind chills dropping the temperature to 33 degrees when he teed off in the morning. He finished the 36-hole tournament at 151.

"It was a real nice round," said Wetzel. "It was tougher than Monday with more wind and it was colder. I just tried to concentrate more. I got off the tee pretty good. My putting was average."

For the second straight day, Wetzel played Heritage Hills' tough three finishing holes in 1-under.

"To finish in the top 10 is a credit to Jake," said Waynesboro coach Ryan Henderson. "I'm so happy for him. And he finished strong in the teeth of the tough holes."

Chambersburg's Clayton Rotz had a second-round 78 and finished at 155, tied for 14th.

Rotz stumbled out of the gate, making bogeys on each of the opening three holes, then taking a double-bogey on the fifth.
