Hawks at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Hagerstown Community College runner Tony Clement finished 11th in the men's race (6.1 kilometers) in 19:51 at Saturday's Elizabethtown Invitational.

Jeff McCauley (22:06) placed 77th, Josh Snyder (22:18) 78th and Jeremy Vancour (28:11) 110th for the Hawks.

In the women's race (4K), Kristin Berry finished 76th in 18:25.


Shepherd 3, Charleston 0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Bernard Walters had a goal and an assist and the Rams' defense pitched a shutout.

Emmanuel Elomobor scored on assists from Leighton Meredith and Walters for a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. In the second half, Guilherme Fonseca assisted Walters' goal in the 78th minute, and Shawn Wijeratne scored on a feed from Gregory Khan in the 89th minute for Shepherd (9-5-3, 3-1-2 WVIAC).


Rams' Mason honored

Shepherd University defensive back Cameron Mason earned West Virginia Conference special teams player of the week honors following Saturday's 42-0 victory over Concord. Mason set up a Rams touchdown with a blocked punt.



HCC qualifies for nationals

BEL AIR, Md. - Hagerstown Community College placed third at the Region XX tournament Saturday and qualified for nationals.

The Hawks advanced three players to the finals, getting a title at No. 5 singles from Samantha Brewbaker, who beat Harford's Kristin Wade, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1 singles, Kay Masser lost in the finals to Montgomery-Rockville's Gaelle Laplanche 6-2, 6-0, while Amber Hendershot fell 6-0, 6-0 in the finals at No. 4.

No. 2 Sarah Roberts and No. 3 Jen Hull both lost in the semifinals for HCC. The doubles teams of Masser-Roberts (No. 1) and Hull-Hendershot (No. 2) both lost in the semis.
