Lindsey Evelyn Hayes of Williamsport was named to the Dean's List at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., for the spring 2006 semester.




The Shepherd University Debate and Forensics Team took first place and received 23 awards in the Shenandoah Novice Debate and Forensic Tournament at Shepherd on Sept. 23.

Roland Rhinehart of Martinsburg, W.Va., received first place, poetry; first place, dramatic duo; second place, parliamentary debate; and fourth place, pentathlon.

Shawn Staub of Charles Town, W.Va., received fourth place, poetry; second place, dramatic duo; second place, dramatic interpretation; first place, after dinner speaking; second place, parliamentary debate; and second place, pentathlon.

Kristin Retter of McLean, Va., received second place, impromptu; first place, dramatic duo; second place, informative speaking; first place, communication analysis; third place, after dinner speaking; third place, Lincoln-Douglas debate; and first place, pentathlon.

Joel DeShong of Hedgesville, W.Va., received fourth place, persuasion, and superior in pentathlon.

Jason McGill of Kearneysville, W.Va., received fifth place, persuasion; second place, dramatic duo; second place, communication analysis; and fifth place, pentathlon.

Teams from Cornell University, Bloomsburg University, Lafayette University, Virginia State University, Cedar Crest College, Brookdale College, and Loch Haven University participated in the event.
