Seeking the best student art

October 20, 2006

Win fame and fortune!

Well, win $50 and a chance to get your name in the paper, at least.

The Herald-Mail announces its third annual student art contest. Students must be 13 through 18 in October 2006 and reside or attend school in The Herald-Mail's coverage area (Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland; Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania; and Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties in West Virginia).

Students may enter as many as three original pieces in the contest. There is no entry fee. Entries must be turned in by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30.

Entries will be judged in three divisions: drawing; painting; and a catchall division (including sculpture, photography, mixed-media, crafts and other artistic creations).

A winner will be selected from each division and featured in the newspaper. A best of show also will be named and will receive the grand prize - a $50 check from The Herald-Mail and free framing courtesy of Howard's Art & Frames.

Drop off original artwork at The Herald-Mail at 100 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; or mail entries to Student Art Contest, P.O. Box 439, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Tell us about your art! On the back of each piece, attach a tag with the title and specify the medium. Also include the artist's name, age, phone number, grade, and school or home school.

Students may pick up their artwork at The Herald-Mail once results have been published in Pulse. Herald-Mail employees and their children are not eligible to compete.
