"This is to the incredibly sweet and thoughtful person who decided to hit my car Tuesday night and then take off. You remember it, don't you? Black Jetta, parked in front of my house around 11 p.m. on the corner of Summit and Reynolds. So, what happened? You spun your tires on a wet road (like all the cool kids do), lost control of your SUV, took off the front end of my car as you drove into my yard? Then, before anyone could get outside to make sure you weren't hurt, you threw it into reverse and took off!"

"To the person who rebuked the person about not knowing how old Bush is and whether he'd be old enough to not go to Vietnam: Well, the original Mail Caller would be correct. Bush is 60. Bush was 20 years old 40 years ago, which makes him old enough to have served in Vietnam. But the fact is that Bush avoided Vietnam by serving in the Air National Guard from 1968-1974."

"Men were drafted during the Vietnam conflict. If Bush were drafted (or if he enlisted), he would have had to go to Vietnam, like it or not. My brother was drafted and sent to Germany for the rest of his two years. He was first in basic, then training in Oklahoma prior to leaving. My cousin enlisted and was killed in Vietnam at age 21. The fact Bush is going to Hanoi about trade did not warrant the smart remark by one caller. Commerce is very important among countries. At least Bush was in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam era."

"Since the election started, North Korea, Iran, terrorists in Iraq, Mexican drug dealers and Venezuela have all started problems. The Democrats, newspapers, are all starting problems, and it's just a mess ... everything comes together a month before the election. I think they're gonna make a mistake by putting the Democrats in there. You know they're gonna raise your taxes - they always have and they always will."

"I am a senior citizen, taxpaying resident of Hagerstown. I have checked with the state, and we do not have to accept the immigrants that are coming in here, but it takes a strong mayor and council to keep it from happening, and it does not appear that that is what we have in our town."

"I would like to know why there is so many colors the crossing guards are wearing. Some wear green, some wear blue, some wear orange. It's ridiculous to see all this different clothing out there, when they're supposed to be, I believe, in one uniform or something. I don't know what's going on with the school board, letting them dress like this. I know of some that dress with their uniform, their hat, their gloves, their whistle and they look so professional out there. I just wish I could get back to seeing the rest of them look that way. Come on, school board, do something about this."

"A Mail Caller attacked Bill Clinton for normalizing relations with Vietnam, a country we helped invade, a country where millions of Vietnamese and more than 50,000 Americans died in a useless war. George Bush will be visiting Vietnam before the war is over. Maybe now, you can be upset with George, too. He didn't go to war, and he was old enough, and now he's going to Vietnam to visit the leaders."

"Loyalton did a fine job administering the flu shots on Tuesday the 17th. We surely appreciate their community service. Thank you."

"I think it's cruel to bring refugees here to a whole new world and way of life for them and just drop them. They had no interpreter, and not to tell the police or the emergency personnel where they live is uncaring. This program needs a lot of work, and some people who care about people to run it."

"Have you noticed the escalation in violence by the terrorists in Iraq? They're trying to make us run scared so we will vote for a Democrat. They know the Democrats want to cut and run."

"I would like to know why the buses around this area cannot pull over and let 10, 15, 20, sometimes even 30 cars behind them go around them. I just came back from Delaware, and I noticed up there that buses pull over no matter what number of cars are behind them to let them go around them. This eases up congestion. The bus drivers in Hagerstown and rural areas need to do the same."
