Williamsport assistant principal treated at hospital

A Williamsport High School administrator was sent to the hospital Friday for a cut sustained while breaking up a brawl in the school's cafeteria, a Washington County Sheriff's Department deputy said.

Assistant Principal James Aleshire was struck in the right eye as he tried to break up a fight between a 15-year-old student and 16-year-old student that started at about 11 a.m. Friday, Deputy 1st Class D.L. Broussard said.

Aleshire was taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital for the "one-inch gash" he sustained above his right eye, Broussard said. He said Aleshire got stitches for the wound.

The two boys each were charged as juveniles with second-degree assault, disrupting school operations and disorderly conduct, he said.

The fight occurred during the first lunch period at the high school, he said.

Broussard said he did not see any marks on the boys.

"One of them is alleged to have hit the assistant principal, but we can't tell if it was an accident or not," he said.

Broussard said the fight, which lasted about one minute, was sufficient enough to bring charges.
