Heritage students earn awards in essay contest

October 19, 2006|by GRACE JOHNSON / Heritage Academy freshman

Recently, there was an essay contest sponsored by The Crown Jewels of the Wire magazine.

It was to inspire students to learn about the history of insulators.

Students had to write an essay about anything they wanted, but it had to include something about insulators.

There were more than 1,500 entries, but only four won.

Two of the winning entries were by Heritage Academy students: sophomore Andrew Hendershot of Clear Spring and seventh-grader Stephen Brewer of Chambersburg, Pa.

The prize they received was a royal blue insulator used in Canada in the 1800s.

"It was a wonderful experience," Hendershot said.
