Police stop van after receiving a false tip

October 19, 2006

Maryland State Police troopers pulled over a state Division of Correction van Tuesday on a false tip that one of the inmate passengers was concealing a weapon, Cpl. Todd Weaver said.

Weaver said police were told at about 4 p.m. Tuesday that an inmate riding in the van headed to Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Md., had a weapon.

He said several troopers responded to the call and stopped the van near Hancock on Interstate 70.

After a shakedown of the inmate, it was determined that the tip was false, he said.
