Know more in 30 seconds - zoning variances

October 18, 2006

The issue: A citizens' group challenged two zoning variances that help Washington County Hospital move from East Antietam Street in Hagerstown to Robinwood Drive. The Washington County Board of Zoning Appeals approved the variances in December 2005. In August, Washington County Circuit Judge W. Kennedy Boone III upheld the variances on three aspects, but said the board needed to clarify its position on the fourth aspect.

What's new: Boone has upheld the variances on the fourth aspect, too.

What's next: A general construction contract for the hospital is expected to be awarded by the end of the year.
