Cancer survivors laugh, celebrate life during gathering

October 18, 2006

Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley Inc. held the 17th annual Celebration of Life Survivors' Party on Oct. 12 at the Four Points Hotel in Hagerstown.

More than 225 breast-cancer survivors and their guests attended the evening banquet and program. Survivors were treated to a dinner and a presentation by Lois Walden, manager of the Corporate and Community Wellness Center with the Frederick (Md.) Memorial Healthcare System. Her presentation was titled "A Lesson in Laughter: Humor and Health."

Kathleen McCann and the BCA-CV board of directors honored Brenda Rosenthal, co-founder and first president.

Rosenthal talked about the amazing growth of BCA-CV (formerly Y-ME of the Cumberland Valley) and the vast number of programs now provided to area residents.

Survivors left with a "Hope Lives: The After Breast Cancer Survival Handbook" courtesy of Genentech, and a decorative live carnation favor.
