FLEETWOOD, Pa. - Waynesboro freshman Liz Breed qualified for the PIAA state golf tournament with a solid round in the East Regional Tournament at Golden Oaks Golf Club on Monday.

Breed shot a 4-over 76 to finish fourth among the girls and earn her position at states. She'll join teammate Jake Wetzel, who had already qualified for states with his ninth-place finish in the District 3 tournament last weekend.

Wetzel shot a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for fourth among the boys in Monday's regional.

Greencastle senior Laura Smith shot a personal-best 87 to tie for 21st.

The top 26 boys and 13 girls in the regionals qualified for the state tournament, which begins next Monday at Heritage Hills in York, Pa.


Goretti 4, Bishop Walsh 3

Clara Spicer scored the game-winning goal just seconds before time expired as St. Maria Goretti beat Bishop Walsh.

Spicer and Kathleen Conner each had a goal and an assist, while Justine Beachley and Melanie Conner each scored a goal for the Gaels (2-14). Andrea Buckner recorded 20 saves.


Lydia Hughes scored two goals and Carissa Kelley scored one to lead the Spartans.


No. 7 Clear Spring 4, Catoctin 0

THURMONT, Md. - Francesco Scotto DiCarlo had two goals and two assists to lead Clear Spring past Catoctin in an MVAL Antietam match.

Jarret Martin and George Burger each scored a goal for the Blazers (8-4, 3-2), while Elliot Reid had two assists and Adam Reid had one.

Frederick 5, Williamsport 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Jesse Buchman scored off an assist from Aaron Miles for Williamsport (5-7, 3-5) in a nonconference loss to Frederick.

JV: Williamsport, 1-0.

Shalom 7, Broadfording 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gabe Hirsch scored a goal and Jordan Whitt had nine saves for Broadfording Christian Academy in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference loss to Shalom Christian.

Heritage 3, CVCS 2

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Steven Barthalow had two goals, including the game-winner, to lead Heritage over Cumberland Valley Christian in an MDCC match.

Cody Butts scored a goal and Travis Barthalow had five saves for the Eagles (7-6-2, 4-6-1).

Tyler Lawson had two goals and Stephen Carroll had seven saves for the Blazers.


No. 3 Greencastle 3, Shippensburg 2

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kortney Eshleman had five kills and 16 assists and Katie Lutz had 11 kills to help Greencastle overcome a two-game deficit and defeat Shippensburg 22-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12.

Michelle Negley had nine kills and nine digs, Julia Stein had nine kills, Rochelle Christman had six blocks and Amanda Ritchey had 16 assists for the Blue Devils.

JV: Greencastle, 2-0.

Southern Fulton 3, Hancock 0

HANCOCK -Courtney Trainor had six kills and Rebecca Schriever had 14 assists as Southern Fulton defeated Hancock, 25-12, 25-10, 25-20.

Sam Bain had 20 service points and Renee Spade had eight service points for the Indians (12-3).

Holley Funk had seven service points for the Panthers (2-9).

Broadfording 3, Shalom 0

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Danielle DuBois had eight kills, eight digs and 10 service points and Hannah Young had 10 kills as Broadfording defeated Shalom 25-21, 25-21, 26-24 in an MDCC match.

Rebecca Adams had 22 assists and eight digs, Sierra Litten had eight digs and Emily Stransky had five kills for the Lions (14-6, 9-5).
