The Jefferson School

JEFFERSON, Md. - Sheppard Pratt Health System Inc. has announced the appointment of Joseph G. Murphy, Ph.D., as director of The Jefferson School in Jefferson.

A native of Delaware County, Pa., Murphy received his undergraduate education at West Chester University in Chester County, Pa., and completed graduate studies in special education administration there. He holds a master's degree in clinical and child and family psychology and a Ph.D. from The California Graduate Institute in Los Angeles.

Murphy comes to the Jefferson School from Chester County, where he headed the Mental Health/Mental Retardation Administration.

The Jefferson School is a program of Baltimore-based Sheppard Pratt Health System, a mental health and substance abuse center for treatment, prevention services, professional training, and research.

Furniture Market

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Tim Barlup recently received an achievement certificate for his promotion to warehouse manager after three years of employment at Furniture Market.

Barlup, of Waynesboro, also recently attended the Mohawk Refinishing School.

His responsibilities include inventory of warehouse merchandise for Schier's and Furniture Market stores. He also receives, logs-in and inspects the received merchandise from truck freighters.

Furniture Market also recognized Dustin Starliper, of Waynesboro, who has worked for the company for three years.

As Barlup's assistant, Starliper helps unload and inspect items received from manufacturers and works as a team member in coordinating projects for the store showroom as well as the warehouse.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

Nelson Betts has joined Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as a sales associate with the Hagerstown office.

Betts is licensed in Maryland.

Paula Clarke has joined Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as a sales associate with the Hagerstown office.

She is licensed in Maryland.

Roxbury Correctional Institution

Kenneth Krug, correctional officer II, was named the Roxbury Correctional Institution's Employee of the Month for October.

Krug was given the award for his professionalism in the performance of his duties. He is a team player with good communication skills and volunteers to perform tasks other than his assigned duties, according to a prepared release.

The Roxbury Correctional Institution announced the following staff promotions at the state prison south of Hagerstown.

Gary L. Heerd has been promoted from sergeant to lieutenant effective Oct. 1. He has 10 years of service with the Division of Correction.

Ray A. Riffey has been promoted from corporal to sergeant, effective Oct. 1. He has five years of service with the DOC.

Joseph Mong has been promoted from corporal to sergeant effective Aug. 30. He has 15 years of service with the DOC.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Michael D. Ocker, CPA, Nina Thiessen, EA, and Becky Raabe, CPA, of Ocker & Associates, PC, a certified public accounting firm in Fayetteville, recently attended a two-day seminar on business entities.

The seminar covered changes in tax law and new tax-planning ideas for S-corporations, LLCs and partnerships.

Liz Burris was named a lia sophia Excellent Beginnings Program Achiever for outstanding sales accomplishment and professionalism.

Burris achieved the recognition in her first 15 weeks by attaining certain sales levels and by sharing lia sophia with other new advisers.

Lia sophia sells fashion jewelry through in-home demonstrations.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

FREDERICK, Md. - Barbara Maloney has been chosen to head the Frederick office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage as the office's branch vice president.

Maloney had been the branch vice president of the Mount Airy, Md., office since 2001.

Maloney has nearly 20 years of real estate experience, working as a sales associate, mentor, trainer and educator.

Since 1995 she has been active in educating local sales agents on issues such as legislative updates for the state of Maryland, professional standards, and the real estate code of ethics/fair housing.

She has earned her certified residential specialist and Graduate Realtors Institute (GRI) designations.

Maloney has completed courses in the foreclosure and bankruptcy process, business development for the residential specialist, sales strategies for the residential specialist and personal and career management for the residential specialist.

AtHome America

Kelly Goetz, of Hagerstown, was honored at the AtHome America annual sales convention.

Goetz, an independent sales contractor for the company, was recognized as a top executive recruiter for the year.

Angela Covington, of Hagerstown, was recognized as a top sales consultant with high team sales.

She is an independent sales contractor with the company.

The awards were presented at AtHome America's Salute 2006.

SPIN

Erin Snell, originally from Hagerstown, has joined SPIN, a Baltimore marketing and public relations firm for the building industry, as an intern.

A senior at Towson University, Snell will graduate in December.

She is majoring in visual communications with a minor in business administration.
