Tracy Leather Memorial Tournament

Host Hagerstown Community College is the top seed in its pool for today's finals after Saturday's action.

The Hawks defeated Catonsville 2-0 (30-19, 30-22), Pitt (N.C.) 2-0 (30-24, 32-30), Oakland 2-1 (28-30, 30-25, 15-7) and CC of Rhode Island 2-1 (30-28, 27-30, 16-14).

Jess Ambrose had 64 assists and 15 digs, Sammi Snodderly had 36 kills, 15 digs and five aces, and China Miller added 19 kills for HCC. Karey Toms had 31 kills, 31 digs and six aces, Kim Snavely had 64 digs and Caitlyn Selby tallied 25 kills.

Clement leads Hawks

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Tony Clement led the Hagerstown Community College men at the Gettysburg Invitational, placing 20th on the 8K course in 26:55.


Also for the Hawks, Jeff McCauley was 125th (29:34), Josh Snyder 151st (30:09) and Jeremy Vancour 201st (36:40).


Green, Spinnler win Fairgrounds 5K titles

Jake Green, 22, of Martinsburg, W.Va., led 80 runners to the finish line at the Fairgrounds 5K in Hagerstown.

Green covered the 3.1-mile course in 15:44. Ben Koch, 26, of Damascus, Md., was the runner-up in 16:14, and Green's twin brother, Elijah, was third in 16:49.

Tom Stevens, 50, of Middletown, Md., was fourth overall and the Masters champ in 16:57.

Hagerstown runners took the top three places in the women's field, led by 44-year-old Maria Spinnler in 19:25. Angie Rhoderick-McKinley, 24, placed second in 19:58, and Tammy Anderson, 33, was third in 20:02.

Finucane wins Candy Cane 5K

CHEVY CHASE, Md. - The Mercersburg Academy cross country teams took a break from the dirt and grass and competed in the Candy Cane 5K open road race.

The Blue Storm's James Finucane won the race in 16:16, while teammate Mark Herring also cracked the top 10, placing 10th in 17:57.

Mercersburg's Annie Spence was the fifth overall female in 21:28.

Open X-C races at Smithsburg

The Mountain Express Open Cross Country Meet will be held Oct. 29 at Smithsburg High School.

There will four age-group races - 5K for ages 15 and older, 4K for 12-14, 3K for 9-11 and 2K for 8 and younger.

The first race begins at 2 p.m.
