Rams blank Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - No. 7 Shepherd University survived a scare from the University of Charleston before pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 17-0 victory in WVIAC football action on Saturday afternoon.

Shepherd took a 3-0 lead with 13:06 left in the fourth quarter on Ricky Schmitt's 36-yard field goal.

Shepherd increased its lead to 10-0 at the 11:50 mark when All-American safety Dan Peters returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown.

Shepherd ran its lead to 17-0 when Dervon Wallace, who rushed for a game-high 143 yards on 20 carries, scored on a 23-yard scamper with 8:05 left in the game.

Dan Chlebowski completed 16-of-21 passes for 105 yards for the Rams (6-0, 3-0), while Corey Isner completed 11-of-20 passes for 107 yards for the Golden Eagles (4-4, 3-2).

Shepherd limited Charleston to 182 yards of total offense en route to its fourth shutout effort of the year.
