Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will offer the following classes:

· Young at Art for ages 4 to 6 - Instructor is Kathryn Lant. 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. or 2 to 3 p.m. Saturdays, Oct. 14 to Nov 4, $40, $35 members; or 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 25 to Dec. 6, $50; $45 members. No class on Nov. 22.

· Art for Toddlers for ages 2 and 3 - Instructor is Melissa Gibson. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 11 to noon Fridays, Oct. 27 to Dec. 8. $50; $45 members. No class on Nov. 24.

· Basic Drawing for adults and teens - Instructor is Mike Gouker. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 26 to Dec. 7. $65; $60 members. No class on Nov. 23.

Opera lectures and performance

Hagerstown Community College will offer opera lectures and trips to performances:

· "The Siege of Corinth" by Gioachino Rossini, lecture 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays Oct. 14 and 21; performance Sunday, Oct. 22.

· "Nabucco" by Giuseppe Verdi, lecture 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Nov. 11 and 18; performance Sunday, Nov. 19.

Instructor Joe Marschner. $100, with $5 registration fee. Lectures are held at Hagerstown Community College. Performances are by the Baltimore Opera at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore. Call Anne Myers at 301-790-2800, ext. 582.

Properties of clay art

FREDERICK, Md. - Students will study the properties of clay and clay bodies. The focus of the workshop will be on the testing and correction of body formulae in stoneware and porcelain; formulation testing; and the correction of slips, terra sigillata and glaze base for specific clay bodies. Watercolor workshop

Bob Wantz will conduct an a 20-hour on-location watercolor workshop. Materials required are the same as for an indoor class, plus a card table or similar flat surface, folding chair, insect repellant, sun screen, hat and a quart-size water container. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at different outdoor locations. $100. Upper Potomac Irish Music Weekend

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - The event will include daytime workshops on fiddle, concertina, tin whistle, flute, tenor banjo, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, bodhran, Irish song, session repertoire and more.
