Town's new wastewater treatment plant might exceed budget

October 10, 2006|by KAREN HANNA

FUNKSTOWN - Work on the new wastewater treatment plant will cost almost $700,000 more than Funkstown Town Council planned, according to a bid approved with some stipulations Monday night.

According to town clerk/treasurer/tax collector Brenda L. Haynes, Callas Contractors Inc. bid to do the work for about $3,186,500. That includes some expenses that ultimately might not be incurred, she said.

The project's budgeted cost was $2.5 million, Haynes said.

The council voted to approve the bid with the stipulations that the state, which is helping fund the project, also approve the bid. Among its other stipulations, the council based bid approval on being able to make up the difference between what was projected and Callas' costs.

The contract officially could be awarded in January, and work could be finished by the end of next year, Haynes said.
