Ship's Nalewak honored

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg senior linebacker Jaron Nalewak, a Chambersburg graduate, was named the PSAC Western Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

In the Red Raiders' 28-21 victory at Slippery Rock on Saturday night, Nalewak had six tackles, including five solo stops and two sacks. He also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that set up Shippensburg's game-winning touchdown.

Nalewak leads the Raiders (3-3) with 42 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks.


Clement leads Hawks

CARLISLE, Pa. - Tony Clement led the Hagerstown Community College men's team to a 12th-place finish out of 20 teams at the Dickinson Invitational.


Clement placed 15th in the 4,000-meter race in 12:46, while Josh Snyder was 90th (14:08), Jeff McCauley was 97th (14:15) and Jeremy Vancour was 150th (17:51).

HCC's Kristin Berry ran 17:59 in the women's 4,000-meter race.


Fowkes scores again

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Western Carolina freshman Shannon Fowkes, the former Smithsburg star, picked up where she left off in the Catamounts' previous game, in which she scored her first two collegiate goals, including the game-winner in the final seconds of a 3-2 victory over Appalachian State.

On Sunday, Fowkes scored her team's first goal in a 6-0 rout of The Citadel as Western Carolina improved to 7-5-2.

Walker top area finisher at Steamtown

SCRANTON, Pa. - Chambersburg track coach Bob Walker was the top area finisher at the Steamtown Marathon.

Walker, 46, covered the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 5 minutes, 56 seconds. He placed 95th overall out of 1,676 finishers and was eighth in the men's 45-49 age group.
