Saint James youths named Commended Students

October 09, 2006

Four Saint James School students have been named Commended Students in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seniors Zack Buzzell of Middletown, Md., James Knable of Hagerstown, Jun Woo "John" Lee of Seoul, South Korea, and Drew St. Lawrence of Plainfield, N.J., all were given a Letter of Commendation from the school and the scholarship program.

About 34,000 Commended Students in the United States were recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2007 competition by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"We are honored to have four young men who are among the top 5 percent," said Drew Lineberger, director of college counseling. "They have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their strong performance in this highly competitive program. Our young men were near the top in scores because Saint James School is grouped together with some prestigious schools in the Northeast rather than by its state grouping. Our group's national Selection Index was around 224, compared to the national state average of 203."
